Saffron cod
Saffron cod is a coldwater demersal fish. Its nursery period falls on summer, taking place at depths of 30-60 m. Saffron cod feeds on crustaceans, worms, caviar and juveniles of other fish species. It is usually 20 to 35 cm long, sometimes growing as big as 50 cm and weighing about a kilogram. Its spawning period comes in winter, and its fecundity ranges from 25 to 210 thousand eggs. The fish migrates to the coast to spawn, with some schools even entering river mouths and lakes.
